1854 $10 AU53 NGC. Mintage figures at the Eastern mints dropped considerably once the San Francisco Mint began operation in 1854. At Philadelphia, just 54,250 eagles were coined in 1854, down from an average of about 300,000 coins in each of the previous five years.
