Description

1854-O Large Date Ten, MS61 CAC
Rare in Uncirculated Grades

1854-O $10 Large Date MS61 NGC. CAC. Variety 1. A heavy die crack from the border to the bust grazes the left side of the 8 on this obverse die. The reverse die is perfect with no cracks, clash marks, or signs of die lapping. Specialists have long debated whether the Large Date or Small Date variety is scarcer. The Guide Book avoids a stand by combining both varieties into a single listing. Although available in AU grades, the 1854-O becomes an important conditional rarity in Mint State. This almond-gold example has refreshingly few abrasions, and luster illuminates design elements. The strike is bold save for blending on the curl below the ear. Census: 5 in 61, 1 finer. CAC: 2 in 61, 0 finer (7/24).
