Description
Near-Mint 1854-O Small Date Eagle
Rare in High Grade
1854-O $10 Small Date AU58 PCGS. The mintage of 52,500 New
Orleans Mint Liberty eagles is split between two varieties in 1852,
the Small and Large Date types. The 1854-O Small Date eagle is
scarcer than its Large Date counterpart in high grade, though the
other variety may have an edge in the rarity rankings in terms of
total pieces known. Probably 150-175 Small Date examples survive in
all grades, and specimens in AU58 condition are rare. This well
struck near-Mint example displays bright mint luster and attractive
greenish-gold surfaces. Population: 7 in 58, 1 finer
(3/11).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28EC, PCGS# 8614, Greysheet# 9445)
