Description

1854-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Important First-Year Issue

1854-S $10 AU55 NGC. This first-year ten dollar gold issue from the new coinage facility in California had a mintage of 123,826 coins. Most were consumed in the channels of commerce, as gold coins circulated heavily on the West Coast. This piece is visually appealing and would represent a good value for a Choice About Uncirculated example. The color is attractive and obviously original, and there are just a handful of moderate marks on the coin, including a small abrasion on the cheek and a pair of thin marks above the eagle.(Registry values: N1793)
