    Description

    Minimally Worn 1854-S Liberty Ten

1854-S $10 AU55 PCGS. As the first Eagle struck in the San Francisco Mint, the 1854-S is an ever-popular coin. It is also the most readily obtainable Ten Dollar gold piece produced before 1879. Nevertheless, the '54-S is a condition rarity, since few survivors from the 123,826 coins delivered grade finer than XF. With only seven Mint State coins known to NGC and PCGS, this is an obviously important Choice AU representative. There is a considerable amount of original luster on both sides, the color being a pleasing blend of olive-gold and reddish-gold hues. Typically abraded for the grade with a mostly bold impression. Population: 15 in 55, 15 finer (1/02). (NGC ID# 263K, PCGS# 8615)
