Description

1854-S Eagle, AU58
Conditionally Scarce First-Year Example
From the San Francisco Mint

1854-S $10 AU58 NGC. In its first year of operations, the San Francisco mint facility struck 123,826 ten dollar gold coins, but most of those pieces were seemingly lost to heavy circulation and survivors are scarce, especially in Mint State where fewer than 10 examples have been seen by NGC and PCGS combined.

This is a lovely piece that boasts exceptional eye appeal for the grade. The smooth, orange-gold surfaces are enhanced by noticeable accents of lilac color near the centers and the peripheral devices. Surface marks are slight and non-distracting. Census: 67 in 58, 5 finer (10/14).(Registry values: N1793)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 263K, PCGS# 8615, Greysheet# 9447)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
