Description
Conditionally Scarce 1854-S Eagle, AU58
1854-S $10 AU58 NGC. The 1854-S is the first eagle struck in San Francisco and a total of 123,826 pieces were minted. While this issue is relatively available in circulated grades, it is scarce in About Uncirculated and is virtually impossible to find in Mint State. NGC and PCGS each report only four examples finer than the present piece (8/08). Strong mint luster accents the olive-orange surfaces. The dies were clearly relapped as the lower hair curls are not fully outlined. A charming, lightly circulated example.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 263K, PCGS# 8615, GSID# 9447)
