1854-S $10 Misplaced Date, FS-301 -- Reverse Cleaned -- NGC
Details. Unc. The Cherrypickers' Guide proclaims "this
MPD is very dramatic!" The base of a 1 resides above the dentils
between the 18 in the date. Although the first-year 1854-S quarter
eagle and half eagle are legendary rarities, the 1854-S eagle is
collectible in circulated grades. Mint State examples are extremely
rare, a rule that applies to all San Francisco tens struck prior to
1878. Perusal of the reverse shows hairlines near the mintmark and
STATES. The only other reportable imperfections are a horizontal
line in the field above star 2, and a scuff on the obverse rim at 7
o'clock.
