Description

1854-S Ten Dollar, MS60
A Rarity in Uncirculated Condition

1854-S $10 MS60 NGC. Die lapping is visible on the obverse throughout the recesses of Liberty's portrait, although the reverse is unlapped. The 1854-S eagle replaced some of the U.S. Assay Office gold pieces in circulation in Gold Rush-era California. Few Uncirculated coins survive. This piece is well-detailed and satiny with yellow-gold color. Light field chatter limits the grade in the absence of singular abrasions. Eye appeal surpasses expectations for the grade.
