Description

1854-S Eagle, XF45
First Year of the San Francisco Mint

1854-S $10 XF45 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. Orange-gold surfaces contain deeper regions around the stars, a lilac halo around the eagle, and red-gold highlights elsewhere on the reverse. Wear is light and even, and small scattered abrasions around the mouth are all that require note. The 1854-S is the first San Francisco issue, and unlike the extremely rare quarter eagle and half eagle, the mintage of eagles was high and many were saved, making XF and AU examples of this important first year of issue available to collectors today.(Registry values: N991)
