Description

Terrific Choice 1855 Eagle

1855 $10 MS64 PCGS. Profoundly lustrous and satiny. The surfaces are generally yellow-gold with occasional hints of pale amber. Central striking definition is solid, though the obverse stars show slight softness, and overall visual appeal is powerful. Near-Gem examples of this pre-Civil War gold eagle issue are highly elusive, owing to a low rate of savings. Despite a six-figure mintage, few examples are known in even About Uncirculated condition, much less at the Select or better level. Among Choice pieces graded by PCGS, the present coin is one of just three, with none finer (11/08).
