Description

1855-O Ten Dollar, AU55
Nice Luster, Original Patina

1855-O $10 AU55 PCGS. Variety 2. Doug Winter writes this about the 1855-O eagle and the Condition Census for the issue: "Just two or three exist in Uncirculated and not many more in AU58. A properly graded AU55 would would qualify." The present example is a worthy candidate, with appealing orange-gold toning and minimally abraded surfaces. A small planchet flaw above the eagle's head and an adjacent scrape are the two most noticeable marks on the coin. Excellent luster remains over both sides of the coin, which is sharply struck although soft on most of the stars. The smooth, reflective surfaces and original patina combine for an outstanding example of this rare date. Population: 2 in 55, 3 finer (4/14).(Registry values: N4719)
