Description1855-S $10 VF25 PCGS. In 1855, a scant 9,000 eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint. Survivors are rare in all grades. On this example Liberty's hair shows expected wear but some plumage detail is evident, and traces of luster reside in protected areas. Small digs are noted near the obverse border at 2 and 6 o'clock, and on the reverse border at 12, 1, and 4 o'clock.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 5/2008), lot 3399, which realized $2,300.
