1855-S Ten Dollar Liberty, XF45
Scarce, Low-Mintage Issue
1855-S $10 XF45 NGC. The low mintage gives the 1855-S ten
dollar one of the lowest populations in the entire ten dollar
series. Curiously, the entry-level price for a Choice XF is not
that high for a coin with so few known. Recent NGC examples have
sold at auction in the $3,200 to $3,500 price range. This piece has
bright surfaces and a thin layer of reddish patina. A number of
small, but individually insignificant abrasions are scattered over
each side. The strike details are a bit soft over the stars and
Liberty's hair curls, but are strongly defined elsewhere.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 263N, PCGS# 8618, GSID# 9449)
