Description

1855-S Ten Dollar Liberty, XF45
Scarce, Low-Mintage Issue

1855-S $10 XF45 PCGS. This low-mintage San Francisco issue is also one of the challenging branch mint dates in terms of surviving examples. Only 9,000 coins were struck, of which PCGS estimates 60 to 80 pieces are known. This Choice XF offering is about average in terms of preservation. Deep orange-gold surfaces display the expected scattered marks and abrasions, including a nearly horizontal scrape above star 12. The highest points show modest wear and small marks dot Liberty's cheek. Significantly finer examples for the grade are simply unavailable. Population: 13 in 45, 20 finer (8/24).(Registry values: N1793)
