Beautiful 1856-O Eagle, AU55

1856-O $10 AU55 NGC. The New Orleans Mint struck few gold coins in 1856 as the San Francisco Mint picked up the pace to convert newly mined gold into specie. In fact, New Orleans coined just 47,850 gold coins of all denominations throughout the year, using a little over 14,000 ounces of gold. In the same year, San Francisco struck almost 1.5 million gold coins, using 1.22 million ounces of gold!
This delightful Choice AU eagle has excellent light yellow-gold luster with traces of orange patina. The fields retain some reflective appearance especially close to the devices. Census: 21 in 55, 20 finer (8/08).(Registry values: N2998)
