Scarce AU 1857 Eagle, Important Breen-6925 Variety
1857 $10 AU50 PCGS. Breen-6925. A bold, thin, and slightly curved raised line connects the 5 in the date to the bottom of the crosslet of the 7. Breen considered this to be an overdate, but was uncertain of what digit this errant die line represented. The variety is listed in Coin World Trends, where it is priced at $7,500. Regardless of its overdate status, the 1857 is a much better date. Only 16,606 pieces were struck. This problem-free piece has bold details and ample radiant luster.
