1857 $10 AU58 NGC. Production of ten dollar gold pieces dropped significantly from 1856 to 1857 with 60,490 pieces struck in the earlier year and only 16,606 coins produced in 1857. Output remained small in Philadelphia until 1861. This is one of the finer examples known. The fields show significant initial die polish (semiprooflikeness) and each side is reddish-tinged gold. Numerous small to medium-sized abrasions are scattered over each side (thus the grade). Census: 22 in 58, 3 finer (7/16).(Registry values: N1793)
