Description
1857-O AU 50. Cleaned. Because of the very low mintage of only 5,500 pieces, third lowest among O-mint No Motto tens, this is a fairly well known issue. While lower grade examples can usually be found for a price, AU coins are very rare with nothing known above that level. This piece is unfortunately hairlined, and would otherwise surely grade several points higher, and might very likely be the finest known. Still, a condition census coin with an unusually sharp strike even for this normally well struck issue. Trends $7,500.
