    Description

    1858 Eagle, AU53
    Attractive, High-End Example

1858 $10 AU53 PCGS. The 1858 eagle issue is rare in any grade, understandably so, given the small mintage of 2,521 circulation strikes (three or four proofs are known, including one each in the Smithsonian and ANS). Any example such as the present piece, in AU53 certified by PCGS, is a true conditional rarity; PCGS has seen eight submissions in this grade with four finer (1/14), the highest-graded an incredible MS64 in the Simpson Collection. This example shows attractive blond-gold surfaces with rose accents and a good strike overall. A scattering of light marks appear, but none of them are of consequence. This is a coin that would not easily be improved upon.
    From Christopher Bently's Nob Hill Collection.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 263W, PCGS# 8625)
