Description

1858 Ten-Dollar, XF 40 (Cleaned)

1858 XF 40 Cleaned. The 1858 ten is one of the legendary rarities of the series. Its fame has been known for many decades. Akers estimates that only 25-30 pieces exist in all grades while Breen halves that estimate and reckons that perhaps only 12-15 pieces survive. The 1858 is also an important condition rarity, being seldom located above the VF-XF level. This piece shows even wear on the highpoints of the devices with unnaturally bright surfaces throughout (from the cleaning). For pedigree purposes, a small group of bagmarks is noted between the eagle's wing and lower beak. Of the greatest importance to the specialist in this popular series.
