Description

High Grade 1858-O Eagle

1858-O AU 58 Brushed. One of the more common mintmarked No Motto tens, made so by the existence of a small hoard that entered the market in 1985. This piece is very sharply struck in the centers and still retains some of the bright prooflikeness the coin had when new. On the reverse just above the eagle's beak is a dig that picks up again on the eagle's left wing--perhaps done by a digging tool at the time the hoard was unearthed. Unfortunately brushed in the fields which has diminished not only the value of the coin but much of the original prooflike flash as well.
