Description

1859-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Rarely Seen in Any Grade
Only 7,000 Pieces Struck

1859-S $10 AU55 NGC. The fact that PCGS and NGC have certified only a single Mint State example (MS60) of this elusive No Motto eagle speaks volumes about its high-grade rarity. Choice About Uncirculated or finer examples are limited to a half dozen or so coins, with this piece counted among those seemingly undervalued few survivors. Partial mint luster remains throughout the straw-gold surfaces. Marks are few and tiny, while some faint hairlines exist on the otherwise mostly unabraded fields. The strike is sharp and the eye appeal is far superior to most 1859-S eagles, one of the foremost Liberty eagle rarities -- although not fully recognized as such. Census: 4 in 55, 4 finer (5/24).(Registry values: N4719)
