Description

1860-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Absolute and Condition Rarity
Fewer Than 50 Pieces Extant

1860-S $10 AU55 NGC. CAC. The 1860-S Liberty Head eagle is an absolute and condition rarity. Of the 5,000 coins struck, only 38 to 49 pieces are believed extant, including just three or four coins in Mint State, according to Dave Bowers' A Guide Book of Gold Eagle Coins (2017). This is one of only 24 examples graded by NGC. Four qualify for the Choice AU grade level, and only seven are finer, three of which derive from the S.S. Republic cache (5/21). This fantastic example boasts deep reddish-gold color and partial mint luster. Both sides exhibit minimal abrasions for a Western gold piece. Well struck and well worth a premium bid.(Registry values: N7079)
