1861 $10 MS60 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. The S.S. Republic, a sidewheel steamship loaded with ten and twenty dollar gold pieces, sank in a hurricane off the coast of Georgia in 1865. Salvaged coins from this shipwreck make up a goodly number of the Mint State 1861 eagles known today. This piece is sharp with characteristically bright yellow-gold luster. Moderate abrasions determine the grade.(Registry values: N2998)
