Description

MS62 No Motto 1861 Liberty Ten

1861 $10 MS62 NGC. Two different obverse hubs were used for the 1861. The present piece has a rounded (five-fold) central bun, the style used between 1847 and 1860. Examples are also known with a bulged (six-fold) central bun, the subtype coined after before 1847 and after 1861.
Admittedly, No Motto collectors will pay little attention the hub subtype, and instead examine the present piece for its remarkable luster and eye appeal. Well struck aside from the lowest stars, and surprisingly devoid of relevant marks. Although it is theoretically possible to acquire a higher graded example, this lustrous, smooth, and handsome sun-gold example will satisfy all but the most determined number chasers. Census: 9 in 62, 5 finer (11/08).
