Description

1861 Eagle, MS62
Seldom Seen This Nice

1861 $10 MS62 NGC. The 1861 eagle had the highest mintage of the decade (113,100 coins), but its availability is primarily restricted to circulated grades. A small number of Mint State pieces are known, but the typical example grades no finer than MS61. At the MS62 level, this date becomes distinctly rare. The present coin exhibits a sharp strike and shimmering orange-gold luster. Each side displays faint, scattered surface grazes, but detracting abrasions are nonexistent. Census: 11 in 62 (1 in 62+), 5 finer (10/14).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2647, PCGS# 8633, Greysheet# 9382)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
