Description

1862 Liberty Eagle, AU58
None Finer at PCGS

1862 $10 AU58 PCGS. The 1862 Liberty eagle claims a business-strike mintage of 10,960 pieces, a modest production total in absolute terms, but not unusually small in the context of the series. The 1862 is a challenging date, especially in grades above the XF level. Mint State specimens are very rare and were virtually unobtainable before a small number of nice examples were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Republic.

The present coin is an attractive near-Mint example, with just a trace of wear on the well-detailed design elements. The lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster and show a few highlights of green in selected areas. Visual appeal is far above average for the issue. Population: 7 in 58, 0 finer (9/15).(Registry values: N2998)
