Description

1862 Ten Dollar Gold, VF35
Choice Midgrade Example

1862 $10 VF35 PCGS. An estimated number of 1862 survivors stands at 80 to 100 pieces in all grades combined according to David Bowers' assessment. Gold was worth a premium to its face value and the coins that reached circulation we quickly hoarded or melted. Deep green-gold color flows evenly across both the obverse and the reverse of this Choice VF example. Marks are few -- only the minor remnants of abrasions persist after moderate circulation. A faint reeding mark on the neck below Liberty's chin offers little concern on this pleasing collector coin. Only 10,960 pieces were struck.(Registry values: N991)
