Description

1862-S Ten Dollar, AU53
Challenging in All Grades

1862-S $10 AU53 NGC. The 1862-S Liberty eagle is scarce in all grades, coming from a mintage of only 12,500 pieces. PCGS estimates that just 60 to 80 pieces survive, and the date is nearly unknown in Mint State (only two such coins are reported, both very low grade). This appealing About Uncirculated example displays rich orange-gold patina with hints of luster clinging to the protected portions of the fields. A few small marks on Liberty's cheek serve as pedigree markers. It has been 17 years since we last handled a different AU53 example of this date, although other AU pieces have surfaced on occasion. Census: 7 in 53, 14 finer (11/22).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264A, PCGS# 8636, Greysheet# 9461)

Weight: 16.72 grams
