Description

1862-S No Motto Eagle, XF45
About 100 Coins Extant

1862-S $10 XF45 PCGS. Although gold had all but vanished from circulation in the East after the outbreak of the Civil War, ten dollar gold pieces like this and other gold and silver coin continued to circulate out West. The 1862-S eagle claims a mintage of 12,500 coins, but only about 100 pieces are thought to survive. Some estimates are as low as 60 pieces. This is a pleasing Choice XF representative. It showcases reddish accents over lightly abraded and partly lustrous orange-gold surfaces. A mark occurs on the obverse rim above star 9. Population: 12 in 45, 26 finer (11/21).(Registry values: N2998)
