Description

1863 Liberty Head Eagle, XF40
Only 1,248 Struck

1863 $10 XF40 NGC. An astonishingly low mintage of 1,248 Liberty Head eagles was achieved at the Philadelphia Mint in 1863, probably an indication of the extremes Civil War hoarding reached at the time. This coin shows only light, even wear on the devices, and the pleasing greenish-gold surfaces retain much original mint luster. A short scratch on Liberty's chin is the only mark of note. Census: 1 in 40, 17 finer (9/10).(Registry values: N4719)
