Description

    1863-S Eagle, AU Details
An Affordable Example of This Rare Issue

1863-S $10 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. This issue is a great low-mintage rarity, as is its Philadelphia Mint counterpart from the same date, making 1863 a very challenging year indeed for the date collector. The current example is a suitable choice for such a collector, made more affordable, but not significantly less attractive by its history of improper cleaning. Well-struck overall, if a trifle weak on the obverse stars, with pleasing apricot-tan coloration and minimally marked surfaces. Evidence of an old cleaning is chiefly seen by a somewhat subdued appearance.
