Description

    MS61 1864 Ten Dollar--Tied For Finest Known

1864 $10 MS61 NGC. The 1864-P is a very rare Eagle from a tiny original mintage of only 3,530 pieces. Like many Civil War era issues, the '64 Ten is also a condition rarity. Of the few survivors known to collectors, most fall in the VF-XF category. This piece is the finest example certified by either of the major services. It is a solid Mint State coin that is sharply struck throughout and shows die striations in the fields which impart a semi-reflective gleam to the coin. Sharply struck on each side. There are numerous small abrasions scattered about with the most significant ones (for pedigree purposes) being a tiny alloy stain above star 6, a shallow horizontal scratch across Liberty's cheek, and a small tick in the field below the left (facing) wing. A magnificent example of this rare and highly sought-out No Motto date. (NGC ID# 264D, PCGS# 8639)

    Weight: 16.72 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
