Description

1865 Eagle, AU50
Low-Mintage Date, Original Surfaces

1865 $10 AU50 NGC. The 1865 has an expected low production run, in this case only 3,980 pieces were struck. A few pieces are known in mint condition, but generally AU is the best grade obtainable. This is an obviously original example that exhibits deep reddish-gold color over each side that deepens even more around the devices. Even wear is noted over the high points, and the abrasions present are small and in concert with the grade. Census: 5 in 50, 17 finer (1/14).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: N4719)
