1865 Liberty Ten, AU Details
Low-Mintage Civil War Rarity

1865 $10 -- Obverse Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. The 1865 is another formidable rarity within the long-running Liberty eagle series. Only a meager 3,980 pieces were struck for commerce, likely to prevent speculation on the proof sets made that year. During the final year of the Civil War, no one saved examples for numismatic purposes, and today PCGS estimates only 50 to 75 survivors, mostly in XF and AU grades. This well-defined caramel-gold representative is mildly glossy from a wipe, and small abrasions are scattered. Minor horizontal roller marks (as made) cross the shield.
