Description

1865-S Over Inverted 186 Ten-Dollar

1865-S 865 Over Inverted 186 VF 20 Cleaned. This particular die variety was created when a mint employee punched the first three digits of the date into the die upside down (rotated 180 degrees from the normal position). He then discovered his mistake, and corrected it by repunching the numerals in their correct position. The inverted date is very scarce, but actually not as infrequently seen as the normal date. Normally only seen in Fine or Very Fine condition, this piece is on par with most examples wear-wise, but shows a light cleaning over both sides.
