Description

1865-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Normal Date Variant

1865-S $10 AU55 NGC. Struck from the normal date dies, and scarcer than the inverted date. The reverse is slightly doubled, apparently having been struck from a rehubbed die. The 1865-S Normal Date is a very rare issue and one of the most impressive condition rarities in the entire Coronet ten dollar series. A bit softly struck, the smooth yellow-gold surfaces are still mostly lustrous and show a distinctive, oval-shaped die lump on Liberty's cheek that is apparently diagnostic of the issue. Census: 7 in 55, 6 finer (5/22).(Registry values: N7079)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264G, PCGS# 8642, Greysheet# 9464)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
