Description
Rare 1866 Motto Eagle, AU55
1866 $10 AU55 NGC. All 1866 Philadelphia eagles bear the Motto introduced on gold coins that year. San Francisco struck both Motto and No Motto varieties, which suggests the obverse dies reached the remote facility first. The 1866 Philly has a tiny mintage of 3,750 pieces and is rare in any grade. The present sun-gold example has its share of bright luster and a couple of noticeable abrasions on the lower obverse. The date is widely repunched east. Census: 17 in 55, 5 finer (3/12).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264J, PCGS# 8649, Greysheet# 9387)
