Description
1866 Motto Ten, MS61+
Second Finest Certified
1866 $10 MS61+ NGC. The 1866 With Motto eagle is a scarce
issue in all grades; it is decidedly rare in XF and AU, and Jeff
Garrett and Ron Guth note that it is "almost impossible to find" in
Mint State. NGC has encapsulated six pieces as Uncirculated,
including two MS60 coins, three MS61 pieces (1 in 61+), and a sole
Choice example, although these numbers may include one or more
resubmissions; PCGS has not certified any finer than AU58 (12/14).
Due to the Plus designation, the MS61 coin here offered
sufficiently ranks as the second finest known. The strike is sharp
and the surfaces display warm straw-gold luster. Noticeable
semiprooflike mirroring in the fields delivers excellent eye appeal
and the surfaces reveal only minor abrasions for the grade. An
important rarity and a very attractive coin.(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264J, PCGS# 8649, Greysheet# 9387)
