Description
1866-S Ten Dollar, XF45
First With Motto Issue
1866-S $10 Motto XF45 NGC. Like most other issues of the
period, this first-year Motto eagle from the San Francisco Mint
claims a paltry mintage of 11,500 coins and a minuscule
survivorship that probably does not exceed 100 pieces. Deep
red-gold color is highly appealing, compensating for small,
scattered marks and a brush of high-point friction. The mintmark is
faint. Census: 10 in 45, 24 finer (3/19).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264K, PCGS# 8650, GSID# 9467)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 16.72 grams
AGW: 0.48375oz
