Not Sold Description
1866-S Motto AU 50 NGC. The 1866-S Motto eagle is an elusive gold issue that is similar in overall rarity to the San Francisco Mint's deliveries of 1858, 1859, 1862, 1863, and 1865. Of the already small number of coins certified by NGC and PCGS, only nine examples fall into the AU level. To date, no Mint State examples have been certified by either grading service. This is an original example that shows rich crimson-gold color. Well struck and nicely defined despite light wear across the highpoints, there are remarkably few abrasions for a circulated eagle.
