    Description

Challenging 1866 No Motto Eagle AU55

1866-S $10 No Motto AU55 NGC. Well detailed with a conspicuous lack of surface marks for an early gold issue from the bustling Pacific West. Glimpses of satiny luster can still be found about the devices. What appears to be a small lamination is situated above star 13. The transitional year 1866-S No Motto is one of the rarest issues in the entire series of Coronet tens, of which only the 1864-S and 1875 are seen with less frequency. Its original mintage of 8,500 pieces does not begin to convey the true scarcity in all grades, but especially in lesser worn condition. Only a single Mint State representative has been certified, an NGC MS60. Census: 4 in 55, 3 finer (11/05).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 264H, PCGS# 8644)
