Description
Choice AU 1868 Ten
1868 AU 55 PCGS. A paltry 10,630 business strikes were produced of this scarcer With Motto issue, and the majority of survivors are in the VF and XF grade range, this piece being 25 points finer than the average grade usually seen. Only 8 pieces have been so graded by PCGS with 1 finer, but no Mint State coins have been certified by either service to date (12/98). This reddish-golden tinted coin has little of the original luster remaining, this having been largely interrupted by the numerous abrasions that cover each side. A couple of small abrasions are seen on the portrait of Liberty and there is a notable cut between the S and O in STATES OF on the reverse. Another rare opportunity for the collector of With Motto tens.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264N, PCGS# 8653, GSID# 9389)
