Description
NGC 1868-S XF 40. An extreme rarity in the Coronet series, Akers did not know of the existence of any AU or better '68-S tens. Since the publication of his reference work, only 4 coins have been certified by the major services in AU. This is a rather rough looking piece in terms of abrasions, but the devices are surrounded by a deep rose patina that gives a nice two-toned contrast to the coin. Softly struck on the obverse devices, but well defined on the reverse. This is the first example we have sold in any grade in the past year. Of the greatest rarity and importance to the collector of this popular series. Trends $5,200.
