Description

1869-S Eagle, AU53
Underrated Issue From a Low-Mintage Era

1869-S $10 AU53 NGC. From a modest mintage of 6,430 pieces, the 1869-S eagle is an underrated coin today, because many issues of the period had even lower production totals. Garrett and Guth believe the 1869-S is just as rare as its contemporaries, and coins at the AU53 level are very rare. The present coin is sharply struck, with pleasing green-gold surfaces, and remarkably few abrasions for the grade. Census: 13 in 53, 12 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
