    1870 Ten Dollar, MS60
    Underrated Philadelphia Issue
The Sole Coin Certified in Mint State

1870 $10 MS60 NGC. Ex: Kupersmith Collection. The 1870 eagle had a low mintage of only 3,990 coins, virtually all of which experienced heavy circulation and a correspondingly high attrition rate. The issue is scarce in all grades and is a notable rarity in XF and AU; this piece ranks as the sole finest certified and as the only piece encapsulated as Mint State. Bright yellow-gold luster illuminates sharply rendered design elements and slight reflectivity in the fields. No evidence of wear is present, and we instead note only grade-consistent abrasions over both sides. With such a low survival rate, the 1870 ten dollar seems somewhat underappreciated in comparison to branch mint issues of similar rarity.(Registry values: N7079)
