    Description

More Affordable Key Date 1870 Carson City Eagle

1870-CC $10 VG10 Reverse Scratches Uncertified. There is little to complain about on either side of this coin. True, it is extensively worn with the rims fading or indistinct in many areas, but the surface preservation is quite pleasing for a Carson City Mint Eagle that spent this much time in circulation. The color is an original honey-gold shade, there are not many sizeable abrasions, and even the few pinscratches in the reverse field above the eagle are not all that distracting. The 1870-CC is the rarest CC-mint Eagle, this despite the fact that its original mintage of 5,908 pieces is not as low as those of the 1872-CC, 1873-CC, 1876-CC, 1877-CC, 1878-CC, or 1879-CC. (NGC ID# 264U, PCGS# 8658)
