Description

1870-S $10 VF20 PCGS. Moderately worn with golden-brown toning that is augmented by cobalt-blue and coppery accents near the peripheral devices. All letters in LIBERTY and the beads are strong, and all letters in the motto are readable except the W in WE. The low mintage of 8,000 pieces and a relatively poor survival rate make this issue scarce at any grade level. Population: 8 in 20, 52 finer (8/16).
Long Beach Signature (Heritage Auctions, 6/2000), lot 7604; Dallas Signature (Heritage Auctions, 11/2007), lot 2146.
