    1871-CC Eagle, XF45
    Natural Red-Gold Color

1871-CC $10 XF45 NGC. CAC. Variety 2-A. There is a single dentil between the base of the 1 and the bust tip. The reverse is the same one used to strike the famous 1870-CC. Four deliveries took place in February, March, August, and November 1871, resulting in a total production of 8,085 1871-CC eagles. Somewhere in the vicinity of 90 to 110 examples are thought to exist. While this issue does not approach the rarity of the 1870-CC or the 1872-CC, it is a scarce date in its own right and is highly pursued among Carson City enthusiasts.

Reddish-gold surfaces are eminently appealing and inarguably natural. Detail is incomplete over the centers, but the stars are well-defined. There are many small abrasions peppered over each side but the only significant mark through the left shield border is well-concealed and undistracting. Census: 20 in 45, 34 finer. CAC: 5 in 45, 3 finer (1/18).
